Each year, Black History Month culminates with a student student performance. This faculty-led initiative is spearheaded by Ms. Dennison. To assist with these efforts, contact Ms. Dennison.
Each year, students are assigned a "castle" comprised of students from every grade level. The students learn about character traits (grit, confidence, determination, curiosity, creativity, integrity, and honesty) and work together to display these traits and earn points for their castles. More info in this LEAF newsletter story (see pg. 4).
Four times each school year, on half-days, Liberty invites students to bring a family member or other beloved adult to school. It's a chance to see the great work our kids are doing, meet the faculty and your fellow Liberty families, and join our children for activities in the classroom.
At the end of each school year, LEAF invites Liberty family, friends, and neighbors for an evening of food, games, and fun! Step right up for prizes, an obstacle course, face painting, and a raffle.
As a Spanish language magnet, Pittsburgh Liberty K-5 celebrates this delightful Mexican holiday, a lively and joyous celebration of beloved friends and family who are deceased. The kids build ofrendas (altars) with the departed loved ones' photos and momentos. And in late October, we gather as a school community to share in some food and craft-tastic fun, complete with a display of our kids' artwork on our giant, school-wide ofrenda.
On the 5th of May each year, Liberty kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade students delight their families with a performance commemorating Mexican culture. Join us for music, dancing, and food on the field.
In Feb, 2020, the Liberty faculty kicked off a new school tradition--a school dance! Liberty students each brought a special adult. All were encouraged to dress to impress! We had prizes, raffles, pizza, a dessert bar, photo ops, games, and of course DANCING! This event is hosted by the faculty and spearheaded by Ms. Cox; contact her to sign up to help out.
Bundle up and join us at Schenley Skating Rink. LEAF sponsors free admission for Liberty students and families.
Each Halloween, Liberty teachers take the students trick-or-treating on Walnut St. in Shadyside during the school day.
