Each year, Black History Month culminates with a performance showcasing our student's work and learning!
Every fall, students are assigned a "castle" comprised of students from every grade level. The students learn about character traits (grit, confidence, determination, curiosity, creativity, integrity, and honesty) and work together to display these traits and earn points for their castles. More info in this LEAF newsletter story (see pg. 4).
Four times each school year, on half-days, Liberty invites students to bring a family member or other beloved adult to school. It's a chance to see the great work our kids are doing, meet the faculty and your fellow Liberty families, and join our children for activities in the classroom.
At the end of each school year, LEAF invites Liberty family, friends, and neighbors for an evening of food, games, and fun! Step right up for a bouncy house/obstacle course, face painting, lawn games, and a 50/50 raffle.
As a Spanish language magnet, Liberty celebrates this delightful Mexican holiday, a lively and joyous celebration of beloved friends and family who are deceased. The kids build ofrendas (altars) with the departed loved ones' photos and mementos. Each year, LEAF hosts a big, school-wide event, gathering our school community together to share in some food and craft-tastic fun, complete with a display of our kids' creations on our giant, school-wide ofrenda. See our writeup in Kidsburgh!
Liberty kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade students delight their families with a performance commemorating Mexican culture. Join us for music, dancing, and food on the field.
Each February, Ms. Cox leads the Liberty faculty in hosting a school dance for students and their parents/guardians. It's a dress-to-impress event, with prizes, raffles, food, photo ops, games, and of course DANCING!
Bundle up and join us at Schenley Skating Rink. LEAF sponsors free admission for Liberty students and families.
Each Halloween, Liberty teachers take the students trick-or-treating on Walnut St. in Shadyside during the school day.
In December, our students sing winter and holiday songs for Shadyside businesses.
In the spring, Ms. Fuerst leads Liberty students in training for the Pittsburgh Kids Marathon, by running the 26.2 miles together over the course of 8 weeks, with the last run being the big, city-wide event. Dozens of families participate each year!
In November, Ms. Lowe organizes this beloved school tradition, a potluck dinner for 5th grade students and their parents/guardians.
Ms. Lowe leads the 5th grade faculty team in organizing (and fundraising for) a day at Kennywood for 5th grade students every spring. Families are welcome to join in the fun, too, and chaperones (with clearances) are appreciated!
Ms. Theobald leads the 5th grade faculty team in organizing (and fundraising for) a 3-day/2-night stay at Camp Kon-O-Kwee for 5th grade students. There's climbing, ziplining, games, bonfires, exploring nature, and of course bonding as a class!
